Some mutterings about covid cases rising again in the UK, why would this be ? With the vaccine roll out going along OK until the eu have a hissy fit, you would think things would be improving, but we are being told otherwise. Does anyone know if people are being tested after having a vaccine, and if so, does having the vaccine give a positive result ? Does anyone believe any of the figures that are being bandied about ? Are we being, and have we been lied to about the virus?

Things have certainly been improving. But... A T&T operator family member is absolutely certain that the schools will be a significant factor, having been so last time; but also relaxed vigilance by joe public. And, the vax hasn't passed a tipping point yet.

Lets see...

1. Only 1/3 of the population has been vaccinated, so the other 2/3rd are still open to it.
2. Schools have reopened and SWMBO suggested two entire classes had been sent home to isolate, there must have been a reason why.

What is confusing me, is how they state the numbers and in the same paragraph - Those who have died with covid and those who have died of the covid.

Children, and potentially people relaxing more than they should for both socialising and going to work.

We've got a degree of protection for a third of the country, which is great but not enough to stop the disease spreading, that'd take 80% or more.

You can still be tested after the vaccine, it won't result in a false positive.

Yes, probably not.

From what I see on my infrequent visits to local town / shops there are several factors :-

More people out & about and being far more relaxed about sanitising hands, keeping their distance, and how they are wearing masks.
Shear b****y ignorance in Supermarkets.
People thinking 'I've had the vaccine jab and so I'm protected' failing to allow the protection to develop - around 3 weeks.
Queues at school gates.

Why?

Same reason as last time. 10 million people are mingling everyday in the UK alone, similar in other European countries, and they are spreading it to the vulnerable.

It's a virus, if you let people mingle, it spreads.

Many people said, and it was repeated here, that before schools open we need to vaccinate everybody.

I really don't know what magic people were expecting to happen this time.

"insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results"

So why , when my wife asked the hospital where she was going for tests, did they tell her not to have the jab as it would result in a positive result? Do you know more than medical experts?

Could vaccination cause a false-positive COVID-19 lateral flow device (LFD) antigen test result, or a false-positive PCR test result?
No. The LFD test detects a different protein of the virus than the one encoded in the vaccine, and the PCR test detects different genes of the virus than the one included in the vaccine. There is no possibility of cross reaction.
In this case, yes I seem to know better than whomever told your wife not to have the jab, although I don't have a clue if they were an expert in vaccinations and biochemistry, or just a receptionist. Medics make mistakes sometimes.

You are also assumeing have no job is recalling this episode correctly and not adding his considerable bias.

Probably because the vaccine is given to induce the production of covid 19 antibodies, therefore if you have a test after the vaccine, you will probably come back as positive for covid 19 antibodies. Cases rising most likely due to schools going back.

Which isn't unreasonable, I try to give the benefit of the doubt to whomever I am discussing things with.

One point that's worth remembering is that the expected outcome for the current level of vaccination is a drop in mortality for vaccinated groups. That seems to be happening now.

Around Christmas you had 1:13 ratio of deaths for under 60s to over 60s. Now it's around 1:7. I'd expect that to drop more as we get the second round of jabs done for the older/more vulnerable groups and because there can be a significant lag between catching covid and dying as well as the lag between vaccination and protection.

It is known, and expected, that sending youngsters to school will result in a surge in infections.

This is so obvious that it hardly needs repeating.

Reopening bars, clubs, theatres and choirs will do the same.

The government will have made the decision that the number of hospital admissions and deaths will be acceptable, now that most of the most vulnerable have been offered vaccination.

Nobody can help vaccination refusers, it would be like trying to persuade a smoker, or obese person, or heavy drinker with liver damage, to change their priorities. No point in wasting your breath. No doubt many of them will survive.
