It is a widely held misconception that a cow has four stomachs.

It has ONE stomach that has four COMPARTMENTS.

Just something that gets my 'goat'. See what I did there?

How does the food know which compartment it belongs in? ;) is it barcoded?

  My youngest son (aged 9) believes he also has a seperate compartment in his stomach. No matter if the main compartment is full to bursting, there is always some room left in the 'pudding compartment'! Now I know where he gets it from.

Yes, they're both bovids. Very good!

By the way, the stomach compartments of ruminants are usually referred to as "chambers" in biology ;)

I know this because I "ox'd" a biologist. He's also a custom-car fan, he was just on his way out to polish his car, in other words to "buffalo"-rider (you know, with hydraulic suspension and stuff). I think it was a "Chrevrotrain"... perhaps an "Impala". ;)
