Crack above window running up ceiling

Hi all

Wondering if you could help, I went to see a property yesterday and noticed a crack in the plaster from corner of window in the stairs up the wall and raked ceiling. The house was extended in 1977, and hasn't had anything recently done to it. Owner says it's been like that for 7-months.

If it's just appeared in the last 7 months and they have had nothing done then you need to look into it. It's worrying that the crack goes into the plaster board in the ceiling.

I'm hoping to get another viewing, and if I think it's what I want, I will get a structural engineer to go and take a look at it

Think it was lath & plaster not plasterboard ceiling
