Hi
After removing some wallpaper in a second floor bedroom (mid-terrace, 1875), I came across some blown and cracked plaster where the party wall meets the front wall of the house, near the window. The cracks were originally quite fine, but I opened them up a bit and knocked off the cracked and blown areas so I could repair them, and a hole opened up where the two walls meet. Through this hole, I can see deep into the party wall, I think because the bricks have cracked? The gap is wide enough for me to get my hand into.
Should I get a structural engineer in to look? What are the potential causes, and are they all serious/expensive?
