Hi There - First post so please be gentle.
I plan to block off my fire place and fit a wall mounted electric fire. I've removed the tiles from the surround and in doing discovered loose plaster so I've taken that as well to make sure everything is sound.
However, in doing so, I found the fireplace lintel is badly cracked. As I'm blocking this off, I'm think best thing is to remove it and go get a concrete lintel from wicked to support the breast - would that be sufficient? Is there anything else I would need to do.
Many thanks
