Cracks and holes in airing cupboard ceiling (with photo)

Hi all,

I have attached a photo of my airing cupboard ceiling. The cracks I am happy to fill with polyfilla or ready mixed plaster, but I am not sure how to approach filling the large hole around the piping. Any ideas?

Roll up a piece of News paper, the "Sun" works well a plasterer`s favourite, shove it in the hole and fill with polyfilla .

Wow - is it really that simple?! Happy days! I think i may just have a copy of the Sun lying around upstairs.
