Hi,
I live in a 1930s 3 bed semi and have lived here for seven years. We had a survey done when we moved in which said there had been no significant movement.
However, there were some diagonal cracks on the external mortar above the porch although this seems to be an issue with all the houses locally.
We had the house repointed 5 years ago and they did a great job. They put some kind of resin in the mortar above the porch to make it stronger but said there is no guarantee that it won’t crack again. The rest of the reporting is as good as new.
It appears to have cracked again and some of the mortar has come out.
There is also a crack on the other side of the wall internally and this was skimmed about 5 years ago too.
I’m no expert but I don’t think it is anything to
worry about but would interested to get a view from others more knowledgeable then myself. I’ve attached some pictures, thanks.

OP,
The flashing pointing is rubbish - remove the pointing & the sketchy flashing.
Rake out the chases to a 25mm depth, and then re-fit the flashing, & neatly re-point.
Wedge the flashing turn into the chase, and cut back the flashing 20mm from contact with the tiles.
The hip pointing & bedding mortar is also rubbish but there's not much you can do about it unless you totally re-do the hip.

What’s up with the flashing pointing? I’m really happy with the work that’s been done by tradesman’s I trust and the rest of the painting looks great five years on. My question was more around whether the cracking is an issue. Thanks for the feedback but you’ve not really answered the question.

OP,
Your question was answered: all "the trusted tradesman's" pointing is rubbish. Rubbish pointing is generally considered an issue. You were told how to deal with the rubbish issue.
Your post was mainly ref the pointing - two of your pics were of the pointing - you described the pointing as: "cracked" and "cracked again" and "some of the mortar has come out".
You didn't think the internal crack was "anything to worry about".

If the cracked mortar was repainted do you think it would reoccur? You seem like a real ‘expert’ in these things.

On the face of it I would suggest that the porch has settled/tilted forward slightly hence internal crack and dragging out of flashing/mortar. nothing to get uptight about, repair and monitor for the next 10 years and perhaps repair again then. Was the porch an add on, if so perhaps the foundations were a little to shallow

Those 30's semis often had an arch over the front door, which occasionally failed if the abutment was too short.

Thanks both. That was my assumption but good to get some clarity. Originally it was an archer porch and the new porch was added on which isn’t the best quality but thanks for the replies.
