Hi,

Wonder if you can help? I am trying to create a frame for an arched transom window. I have been quoted over £700 by a manufacturing joiner to get one made but sadly I can't afford this. Would it be okay to use flexible mdf to create the frame myself or would it not be strong enough or thick enough to hold the glass?

Can't see that mdf would hold up to the weather very well!

Hi DIYer -

I'd agree, MDF won't hold out weather (I've never seen flexi-MDF in moisture resistant grades) and in any case it doesn't have the structural strength qualities you need. Curve work is considerably more time consuming and dangerous than conventional straight machining because of the need to ring fence on the spindle moulder. It can also be more of a problem to fit such windows and doors. Can you indicate the sizes and materials?

If you was a confident DIYER which you're name does not suggest.and you had a jigsaw and a decent router it would be possible to make a arched frame.
