Sold to a private buyer.

Burns down.

Fire brigade can't get close as the access road is blocked.

Suddenly the access road is open, as a JCB came and demolished it.

What??

AFAIK, they have been told by the LA, it must be rebuilt to the same spec and they won’t allow any change of use.

Apparently plod are investigating. Obviously setting fire to a listed building, even if you own it, is unlawful.

The pub wasn't listed according to reports I read yesterday.

When I first saw the report about it being on fire I told my wife that seems a bit suspicious. Gets even more so now.

I understand it wasn't listed?

Even more suspicious if the reports are true that its listing was requested a week before the fire.

Not much the LA can do then. Plod can't do much if you own the property you are accused of burning down.

This really is a classic example, but the burden of proof means it will be almost impossible to bring a prosecution.

Plod will know that they are collecting evidence out of thin air & the only possibility of a successful prosecution will come from an informant.

What they have done, & no one can "prove" what they have done, has been thoroughly planned out & unless they are incredibly stupid they will get away with it.

So why didn't the owner just demolish it?
