Quick Question if the bolt was halfway or when the bolt has gone down a few threads and it starts to cross thread (starting to bind get stiffer ) will all the threads from the point of resistant start to strip if you were to continue with a ratchet if so why and not just one of the threads on the bolt . (Hope that makes sense)

Hard to follow but yes it will damage it

Back it out carefully and it may be possible to start again, either with a fresh bolt , or by cleaning the bolt threads.
Sometimes getting another nut the same thread can be slit, and used as a die to clean the bolt threads

So your saying all the threads would be damaged from the point it starts resisting if you were to do it up by ratchet no matter where it starts resisting on the thread like when you start to feel. Is this because the threads are misaligned with the internal thread (female)

If you manage to get it down a few threads, it shouldn't "start" to cross thread. Because if you get it down a few threads, then you must have started it on the right thread.
You can only cross thread it from the start.
If you feel resistance, there is something wrong and you should stop immediately.

That is a true point but you say when you feel resistant ,what happened if you feel it then goes easy again and then does the same thing again down the thread again . Sorry if I go on as you practically answered my question but this one has always got me confused .

This scenario usually means that the metal that the bolt has been threaded into has been distorted due to over tightening at some time......very common on alloy cylinder heads and blocks, for example.
John :)

If you carry on , the job becomes a bodge at best, dangerous at worst.
