We moved into our house 2 months ago and there is a huge Norway Maple Tree in our back garden. It's close to the house and taking a lot of light from the garden. We contacted the council and no TPO on it so got their recommended tree surgeon out. He suggested we could just remove it but my brother said we can't as we may get heave (our soil is clay) so best to crown reduce several times first and then remove.
The thing is the surgeon has quoted £500 for crown reduction but only taking off 3m height and thin by 10%. This doesn't seem like a big reduction for the money. What do people think?
