Hi,

Before I call a builder in for some advice I thought I would submit to the forum.

Two years ago I bought a 1930's house that had been pebble dashed. Nothing came up on the survey so I figured all was well. I travelled overseas with my job for 18 months and on my return decided to do some maintenance.

First job was to get up in the roof to do a small loft conversion for storage. Upon getting in there I found half a skip full of crap and dirt. Getting it all out and down was a nightmare. What I see is the end wall pretty much shot. Nearly all the bricks are crooked, mortar crumbling and many of the bricks themselves are crumbling.

I can only see about 10 feet square up to the roof joists. Obvious my worries are how far this has gone. No bowing from the outside of the house.

What would be the cause of this and will it mean the outside of the house has to come down and be rebuilt?

Photo would help, but you really need to get a reputable builder to carry out an on site inspection.
The problem could be due to a number or reasons.
ie, Is there a chimney stack on that elevation, is it cavity or solid wall,
what type of wall ties if any are they, etc etc
