Hi

I have recently had the old water tank removed from the airing cupboard and and made this into a huge double wardrobe.

I would like to add some lights into this, to be activated when the doors are open.

I think the wiring in my house is quite old. I have a ceiling junction box with one red and one black wire coming down. I have tested it and it has 242v.

Could someone advise how to do this - I would like either 2 strips of led lighting if possible, if not, happy to just have 2 light bulbs - one for either side.

There is also another switched box which the plumber ran the electrics from for the combi boiler. I am not sure whether that would be better but do not want to put too much into one switch.

Thanks

Paul.

What type of doors and is there an earth cable as well?
Also what kind of distance would be between lamps and clothing?

They are thin wooden doors.

No, no earth - just the red and black cable.

Distance from light to clothing is about 50cm - the rails are set back from the doors.

How do the doors open?
No, no earth - just the red and black cable.
no copper conductor snipped back inside grey sheath of cable?
If not you can only use plastic fittings or class II double insulated ones.

Depending how the doors function, you could consider using push to break or push to make switches on the doors.
