Going to let the photos do all the talking but I am not sure how these screws appear to have slid out of the wall.

If I want to put the pole up in same position again, do I need to use some special compound like this one by Toupret?

Or mount the pole on to some backing board?

My house is old victorian and the walls are crumbly beyond the plasterboard.

There is no damp in the wall. That crumbly stuff does not appear to be compact and dense enough to hold the screws in place IMHO.

Many thanks

Can’t see any plasterboard , only a skim over loose plaster , it’s been bodged , needs taking back to brick if it’s all like that .

Gypsum over lime plaster maybe.
I can see bonding plaster (bits in it) applied over what I guess is distemper (paint) which is powdery and the bonding has not stuck.
Under the bonding plaster is crumbling original lime backing plaster.

You need to have a look at what you have and maybe use

If not then knock off back to brick and plaster level

You need longer screws to get through the plaster, into the brickwork.

fill the hole with the tuopret you suggest and then drill through it into the brickwork so your rawlpugs have somethjng solid to grip into.
