We have just moved into a new build house and are looking to fix some curtain poles.

Are there any on-line guides or tips on how to fix them? In particular, what height above the top of the window should we fit them? We don't have any curtains yet so their dimensions aren't an issue.

All help/comments would be very gratefully appreciated.

Regards,

Martin

curtain poles are usually screwed to the wall (via the base) heicgh depends on curtains

It also depends on how you hang your curtains from the pole. You can have them hanging underneath - in which case the pole needs to be a good few inches above the window, or hanging so they cover the pole which means you can have the pole lower.

You can have the poles anywhere so long as the window is covered, e.g. ceiling height, width of wall etc, etc.

The other thing you want to watch is what you will be trying to fix them to. If your house is dry lined you need to get into the block wall behind the plaster board in order to get a secure fixing. I've never had any joy with cavity wall fixings and curtain poles as they take too much weight and a good pull (accidental or otherwise) will tend to loosen it.

In summary, work out what curtains you want first, how you want to hang them and then you'll be able to position the poles accordingly.
