Hi , a customer has a an old optima (citadel xri) and the refuse to change the battery as they said they had it put in 3yrs ago , i switched of the elec and the SAB did its job, and the panel died , new battery. I also tried a battery fuse change, proof the battery was dead.

To the point. The customer says they only need a battery every 5 years and will not replace it till then , obvs i told them it needed a new one and showed them why. Still they said i didn't know what i was talking about (Okay then) and said they will call me in 2 years for the battery. What can this do to they battery charging circuit? As they didn't want the battery disconnecting i went on my way laughing . I said i'd do the battery change and service for £80 ( Pretty reasonable)

As said what would this do the charging circuit in the pannel??

Thanks mad man 41

So your saying there is no charge going to the battery?

Several things spring to mind, what tests did you do other than drop off the mains?
What was the input/output from the transformer?
The voltages to the detectors/sounders?

Could be a diode gone on the charging circuit, the Optima s. did that sometimes.

Try these

Pretty sure I gave you these before, this is the least you do for commissioning.

I thought you were 14?

Christ £80 is what we'd charge and we are NSI Gold!

I am 14 , and i stick with £80 as i have been told its very resonable . Exactly, i thought 80 was a bit steep but ive been told thats fine and not to hold back . I. Charge £60 without battery changes ( panel and bell)

thats fully daft
a battery will last around x time on average but use temperature enviroment and quality off battery all come into the equation if a bulb blows would he/she sit there in the dark for the remaining 4000 hours because they expect it to reach the average at 10000hrs is

How does the customer know that a fresh battery was put in at the last change? Charging for a duff battery is the oldest con in the alarm world.
I'd love to see what this guys service entails as he seems totally clueless on the subject.

Anyone worth their salt can show the customer the battery date code.

Also depending on the company they change them from 1-5 years.

Yup, any domestics I always bring the battery to them when I get the docket signed, shows installation, tests etc. They can even trace it through their paperwork if needed then. We change them at 3-4 years.

Still  at him charging that!

24 hour availability?

;)

Believe it or not i am 24 hour, :) twice my phone has rang in the early hours 2-5 in the morn and in the shed i went , out came the ladders and sack barrow and the push bike :D
