I was cutting some awful ivy on our outside wall and managed to sever the BT cable. I did a DIY reconnect with some screw connectors. What is the best way to do this permanently and make it weather proof. Where do I go for the parts?

(I know I should really call in the BT man, but he will probably cost me an arm & a leg...)

I looked at both items, the 3M product looks very neat. Just one point, the cable contained three yellow wires, with stranded wire inside, they don't seem to do anything since I only connected the coloured wires and everything works. Are they not required to be joined?

Yellows are just strain wires as this is an aerial span cable.

Your line will be on either the orange/white pair or the green/black pair - more than likely the orange/white.

Best to join both pairs though - leave the yellows.

The first joint is the one openreach use now its called a above ground dropwire enclosure, you should also crimp the strain wires on the end of the dropwire that goes back to to pole together in one three port crimp this prevents the strain wires from being pulled back into the dropwire insulation.
