The result is the absence of any integrational, coordinating or management function at a regional level in England that could operate between Whitehall departments and the various bodies, often very local, that are charged with implementing government policy. The fact that some national bodies have adopted internal organisational boundaries that cover completely different geographical territories has also complicated the situation. This is notably and unfortunately true with respect to the key health bodies, NHS England and Public Health England.

And what if the pandemic didn't affect the lungs but affected the heart or liver - what then would be the point of stockpiling ventilators? You and yours would be screaming from the roof tops that the government stockpiled the incorrect equipment, why do we have all these useless ventilators when what we need is dialysis. They should have known!!!

No healthcare system in the world is sized to cope with the pandemic, that's why it is remarkable. No healthcare system in the world should be sized to cope with an infrequent pandemic, because if it were, there would be so much excess and waste. All that equipment or PPE sat in a warehouse, not being used is a waste of material and when someone comes to use it in 50 years time for the next public health crisis - what are they faced with? A dusty warehouse full of useless and aged equipment.

I get that you think austerity is bad, and I get that you're desperate to link austerity with Covid-19. It's old hat though.

The government were warned end of Jan what was coming.....the Lancet wrote 3 articles, the 1st on 24th Jan. President Xi phoned Johnson 16th Feb.

The government chose to listen to behavioral scientists rather than clinicians.
Chinese scientists who are at the cutting edge in these viruses could have been asked to be involved in PHE decisions making. They werent. Instead they listened to Patrick Vallance and Cummings.

Professor Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, said: "If we look at the numbers of new hospital admissions, that does appear to be slowing down a bit now. It has not yet plateaued, so still the numbers can be increasing each day but the rate of that increase has slowed.”
