More questions. Sorry guys. I need to cut a circle out of a rectangular tile. What's the best way to do this? My diamond tile cutter won't do curves.

Many thanks.

Many years ago they did, was brill...just mark your tiles, didnt charge much either.

22 years ago when i done my apprentiship i learnt to cut a hole in a tile with 2 hammers. Kneel down on floor and put handle of club hammer between your knees. Rest your tile on the head of the hammer (glaze facing upwards) With a pointed tapping hammer (we had them made) start tapping away gently in the middle of your marked circle. Eventually (quickly when you know how) the glaze will break and you will get through to biscuit. Keep tapping tapping tapping and you will make a hole. Keep going in a circle as hole gets bigger until you can pass a pair of nippers through the hole and continue nipping away. You can do the same method if for example an electrical socket ends up in middle of tile. You can only do this method with ceramic tiles, not porcelain.

what SIZE and TYPE of tile do you have...

what is the size of hole you need....

Thanks for that helpful reply - what would the forum do without your input?

The tile is a ceramic white rectangular roughtly not sure on exact size but nothing massive. I need to cut a 4 inch hole.

but, just be carefull if the hole is near the edge of the tile, are they 250x200mm etc...if its a 150x150mm tile,.. ya might have problems.. ;)

cross pein hammer for me many years ago to,

Great to see someone else knows this method. I have worked with a few young 'tilers' (fresh from there 2 week college courses!) and they laughed at me when i told them this method, 'why not use a power tool grandad' (im only 45). 'and what if you have no power know it all' i reply. Anyways, you get my point. Happy tiling.

I've decided my best option is to drill lots if holes and use the tile saw I've bought to finish it off.

Thanks for all the advise.
