I need to cut a groove approx 15 mm wide in the 35 mm wide edge of a door 77 cm wide. An inexpensive router seems the obvious tool but would it be possible to achieve the necessary stability on such a narrow (and comparatively lengthy) work surface? Alternatively, do routers come with guides which keep the router stable by engaging with the front of the door? Given the akward length of the door (197 cm) the perfect guide would be one which allows the routing to be done with the door laid flat. BelmontR

Circular saw with guide plus sharp chisel to snap it off.

Am'I reading it right, a channel maybe for a sliding door?

use this with the largest bearing working down to the correct size bearing for the depth required adjust the router plunge and take the last 2.3mm off in one full depth pass

youll have virtualy half the base on the door

make shure you choose the side off the door thats smoothest and be prepaired to remove any high spots in the paint work

I find that if two fences are used instead of one even a router like a DW625 can be stable, especiallt if deep auxilliary fence plates are used.

Thanks to all three of you. My first time use of diynot and I'm impressed by the expertise, the speed of response and the general cheerfulness. And yes, the door (two of them actually) is a slider. BelmontR
