I have 3 holes to cut for waste pipes in my kitchen. Can anyone suggest the best/most practical way of doing this? Do I need to buy a core bit? It's just that the wall is 9 inch thick double brick...
Diamond core 50mm Dia will give the neatest hole, you will also need a suitable pilot bit and a drill with some form of clutch as if the bit sticks it can pull the drill out of your hand.
Worth compairing hire cost with purchase if you are not going to use it again.
or worse injure you, sprained my wrist really badly before christmas doing just that and I should know better. being too lazy to go to the van and get another drill.
I've just ordered a 40mm TCT core drill from Toolstation complete with pilot and arbor, all for around a tenner though an extension bar added a bit more to it I'll be careful with the drill - it's got a clutch so it should be fine.
Hope the pipe will fit, 40mm waste pipe is about 44mm outside diameter, thats why I suggested a 50mm bit as it gives a bit of room for playing around with the pipe.
Run the core bit in from each side otherwise the hammer on the TCT will punch half the wall out.
Chappers used a pistol drill with the buttom locking the trigger(900 rpm), drill snagged and didn't stop until the lead had wound itself around the drill and pulled out the plug
You might be lucky, the TCT can cut a bit oversize, try a little way into the wall, not too far otherwise you will loose the pilot hole. Also if you are using push fit, that can be a bit smaller.
