Cutting holes in brick walls and installing a lintel

Hi, I am after some advice on where I can find information on cutting doors in internal brick walls (about 5ft wide) and installing lintels. I want to do this work myself but would like to have some form of a how to guide. I would also appreciate any good book titles on this subject.

i did a similar job - so many different ways apparently with each builder contradicting the previous. Basically many methods can be followed. I found it hard for anyone to advise on the lintel size given the width of the openning so i opted for a 7 x 4 rsj. everybody agreed that this would suffice (including the council building control guy).
I found that the collins diy manual to illustrate good principles.
