Hi there,

I want to create some nice solid wood shelves for my kitchen/dining room. I was planning to use scaffold boards with shelf brackets designed for boards that I've found on eBay. But I'm thinking it may not give me the look I'm trying to achieve.

So came across a pic on on of the eBay listing where the scaffold brackets were used but the shelf was made from oak worktop cut down to 8 inch widths.

So my question. If I buy an oak worktop and have either this cut down at the DIY shed or take it to a joinery specialist, is it feasible to cut the worktop down without the individual pieces that make up the worktop falling apart? I'd hate to have this happen!

Yes , though the sheds are very reluctant to cut worktop of any type. I used an extra top to rip up for my upstands on a kitchen I fitted. But I have a table saw which made it simple, you might be able to get a decent cut with just a circular saw.
Scaffold boards can also be made to look decent, I purchased new boards [unbanded] and planed, stained and made up a few doors.
