What's a good position and temperature setting for a strap-on hot water cylinder stat?

It seems it's not measuring the average water temperature because the water divides into two distinct pockets, the heated stuff above and the cold below, with quite a sharp boundary. It's more like sensing the temp of the transition point. Is this correct? So how far up should it go, and what's the best trigger temp?

Thanks for any tips. I bet this question's been asked before but I can't be arsed to look any further (that's just an excuse to see what the forum software does with the a-word)

Lazy ****.

:D (good isn't it?) mmm..... I wonder what it thinks of Thomas Crapper? The preview appears ok. And dArsenal won a cup!! It won't print the Gunners real name. Some football buff ought to complain about this, wonder how it treats Scunthorpe?

A third up the tank is normal. As for temperature 55 to 60 is "normal", **** knows why, supposed something to do with legionaires disease, but you're far more likely to get food poisioning at somebody's wedding.

Same as Littlehampton, I guess.

but you're far more likely to get food poisioning at somebody's wedding.

Not so. Didn't you know JP has banned weddings on Health & Safety grounds?

Actually this isn't as daft as it sounds. I read that the H&S police are going around graveyards smashing headstones to test their stability, deeply upsetting relatives and other mourners. H&S have identified a risk of tombstones falling on people and crushing them to death. Indeed this has happened, but statistically the risk is lower than being struck by lightning.
