d/g windows steamed - not the seal

Hi all,

'70s house, upvc d/g ~20 years old and steams up in the mornings. The condensation is on the inside (of the house), and not between the panes. This happens on quite a few of our windows.

Don't think it's the seals, anybody any idea how to prevent this happening?

You need to try and reduce the amount of moisture in the house by either better ventilation or reducing the moisture by not drying clothes inside etc.
Don't discount failed seals as these could be letting cold air from outside into the air gap thus incouraging condensation on the inside.

Thanks for both your replies.

Yup, no mystery...

excessive moisture + not enough ventilation + cold surfaces = condensation

Do we:

hang up clothes to dry? yes.
run the bathroom extractor fans? no
bring wet coats into the house? yes
open the trickle vents by the windows? no
etc.

Do we have condensation on our (double glazed) windows? yes!

I guess that the old windows have a narrow air gap that won't help (colder window), but that's not the root cause.
