Dab plasterboards onto artex ceiling

I need to plaster over some badly artexed ceilings and thought I could dab new boards over the top with the proper stuff (Board Adhesive), does anyone know that this will work, assuming that I apply plenty of PVA first.
I have approx 2.4m height to play with, so thought 9.5mm boards plus skim would be ok.

why not screw them with the correct screws to the joists, never any danger of them falling down
