We have a row of dafs along a fence, the fence runs east/west, with the dafs to the north side of the fence. Each year they flower usually a little later than other dafs in the local, they no sooner flower, than the weight of the flower pulls them over horizontally. Soil is quite shallow, with heavy clay just a few inches below.

Is this due to the sun sheltered position they are planted in please?

Normally it's due to them being too shallow.

General rule of thumb for depth is: two to three times the greatest diameter of bulbs 2 inches or more in diameter and three to four times the greatest diameter for smaller bulbs.

Thanks, would adding more soil on top help, rather than digging them up and replanting?

Yes that also works for next spring. Sometimes rain will wash it away though.

Heavy rain or wind / disease will droop most daffodils also!

If you have consistent issue then you can get minis.
