I have recently had 15mm engineered oak flooring fitted and I am finding the surface very soft and easily damaged. The board has a 4mm oak surface and softwood filler with a ply back board. The board has been glued & screwed down using Elka adhesive & Elka hidden screws. In the past I fitted solid oak in a bed room & study and these have always been fine.
It looks that with having a softwood core there is insufficent support to the oak top surface which allows the oak surface to deform. Has anyone else had this problem, there is obviously nothing I can do about it now other than being very very careful - no shoes, pads on furniture etc which I would have done anyway but i think this problem should be highlighted more.
