Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster.
UPVC door wont seal at the bottom of the frame when closed and theres a clear gap between the door and frame at the bottomthird of the door. If you lift the handle the door pulls in more but theres still a draft so its not sealing, which isn't ideal in this cold weather.
Looks like the previous owner damaged the door somehow and im after some advice as to whether the door hinges could be adjusted to rectify the gap, or whether the damage is causing the gap and it needs a new door? Many thanks

From what I van work out from those pics , it just needs either adjusting or toe and heeling. Not sure if that is a cracking by the door hinge in picture one though

Oh it's a crack ok, usually because the door swings open in the wind and stops dead when it hits the adjacent window cill, probably ripped the opening restrictors out the frame too

That's if it had restrictors on it lol. The crack changes it a little then lol. I've seen doors adjusted and last for a few years with cracks in , not sure if a upvc ' magic man ' could repair so close to the hinge and it last

But if you just want to adjust the door over a bit you'll need an SFS spanner or a 5mm Allen key for that hinge, certainly on the bottom hinge you might not be able to fit the Allen key in because of the brick work so hence the spanner for inside, also why the spanner has a short dumpy 5mm allen on it so you can get it in from outside

Sorry they were poor photos! Yeah the door panel is cracked and the plastic sticks out about 1-2mm where the crack is, which made me think the whole hinge is now pulled away from the door making it impossible to close properly. Theres no restrictors on the door and it easily swings outwards if caught by the wind.
The door itself closes well... its straight and doesn't catch on the frame. I did look at ajusting the sfs hinge but all the guides ive seen only suggest i can adjust it up, down and side to side, not inwards?

Thanks Crank, I'll look into getting the door replaced I think.

Which side is the gap your talking about, hinge or handle side, your picture shows handle side so using the hinge adjustment you can move the door sideways to gain more overlap, if you need more compression on the hinge side because of the crack then unfortunately you are a bit stuck
