Hi,
I've had a mortgage valuation back for a flat I wish to buy and the comments were "the property smelt damp, but is dry lined which limited our investgation, further investigation by a damp specialist may be prudent".
Can I DIY any remedy that may be needed? Any good book recs? Is DIY expensive materials wise? The property has been empty the best part of a year. I'm worried that if move in repaint and leave it at that it may prevent me selling easily are there other issues with leaving damp unchecked?
Would it be a good move to do away with the dry lining? (there are three exterior walls in the flat) I was thinking along the lines of if I rip the plasterboard away from the walls ~ 1870s cure the damp if need be and then plaster I would end up with slightly larger rooms and maybe a more appealing property if I resell and have prospective buyers tapping the walls.
Thanks
