Hi once again,

I have recently taken up the ceramic floor tiles i had in my kitchen to reveal

original quary tiles, unfortunatly a large portion of them are damaged

so i wont be able to use the original floor. My question is there is a white

salt like substance on some of the tiles which i presume could be damp coming

through from the concrete floor, which in turn could mean that the membrane is damaged,

as the missus wants a solid oak floor in the kitchen would i have to dig up and relay the concrete

or can i get a liqued membrane to sort this, as i have been told if the floor is damp the oak will swell and bow ???

u definitely need to sort out the damp before putting new floor down.

what to do depends on how stable the sub floor is "the concrete" - is it pretty solid and not going anywhere ie sinking/cracking. if so then no need to dig out (biggish job).

i would probably infill any low spots with mortar (sharp sand: cement 5:1) then apply a liquid dpm followed by self leveller.
