hello, i was at the cottage the other day and had decided to pull up the carpet and lay tile down instead. When i pulled up the carpet there was some dampness in certain areas of the plywood subfloor. I replaced the damp areas but would like to stop this from reoccuring. There is a crawlspace with earth floors underneath. is there something i can apply to the plywood, top and/or underneath to prevent moisture form seeping through?

paulc1971, good evening.

You may not be aware but? --- you have posted your question on a site based in the UK, It would appear you are Canadian??

Having said the above, the Building Regulations and practices will probably be vastly different ?? For example, one potential thing to consider by way of an answer if?? you lived over here, I would be asking how many underfloor vents there were on the external walls of the Property that would assist in ventilating the Crawl Space under the floor. But given the at times horrendously low temperatures in some parts of Canada, such vents may simply not be possible??

paulc 1981,
Are you still there?

FWIW: crawlspace air vents are common to much of Canada, and required according to the Bldg Codes.
Given that Canadians live in Canada one would imagine that they were aware of their weather?
