Whilst running in a new soil pipe, unfortunatelly a brick "came away" taking with it the damp poof course, the old tar based type. Obviously i do not want to breach the DPC by just bricking back in, but what is the best way to repair it. Should i lay some new "tar paper" type course and channel into the mortar under the 2 old adjoining bricks so i can get a consistant shield, and if i am using a new style one should i mortar each side of the membrane, if so can this affect the integrity of the shield where mortar and the old tar come into contact? or should i not get too hung up about the perfect bridge?

Any help would be appreciated

You don't have to match the type. Any modern DPC will do the job. You should definately strive for the 4" overlap, each side, though.

Carefully does it ;)

Thanks for the advice Texmex, i suppose 4 inches gives you a good enough amount of overlap to stop any ingress of moisture
