I have poured a concrete floor, retained by concrete blocks, sitting on footings. Under the concrete floor is a polyane membrane which comes up and over the block wall. I now intend to continue building the wall, but am worried the mortar joint cannot bond to the block below because of the polyane. How do I resolve the problem?

Thanks for any constructive ideas.

this scenario is repeated on every construction we do. the dpc effectively interrupts the mortar bonding at floor level. it is the sheer weight of the masonry that keeps it steady.

when demolishing a building that incorporates a polythene dpc, it is at this junction that the wall readily fails. so your concerns are not without merit, but worry not, it won't fall down.

for best results trap the dpm between two beds of mortar. ;)
