Hi folks,
We just decorated our living room before Xmas and had some new carpets laid. However, we have noticed some tide marks under our bay window and there is definitely moisture gathering there.
Bit of background, we've lived in the house for 5 years, it's a 1900 mid-terrace house, wooden floorboards with cellar below and bay window. There has been a very small amount of mold over the 5 years we've been here but nothing significant.
However, the amount of moisture was enough to leave tide marks dripping down to the skirting board and a thin layer of moisture on the surface (enough to wipe away). I have a few theories about the cause but wondered if anyone more knowledgable in the area had other ideas or could see what they thought.
1. excess moisture from all the painting/house in general at this time of year.
2. we had a layer of laminate underlay (double layer of plastic, forget exact name) placed under our felt underlay to try and make the room warmer on the carpet shops recommendation - could this be adding to/causing the problem?
Any input most appreciated - it was a hard slog before Xmas getting half the house cleared and redecorated prior to carpetting and seeing this on the newly decorated walls is upsetting the wife a lot. Thanks in advance.
