Hi all, I have a 1930s terraced house. The chimney breast in the ground floor back room has been removed. However, ever since I've lived in the house (9 years or so) I've always had a issue with what looks like damp. The damp appears to show where the chimney breast used to be and it looks more like patches rather than rising damp and where up to 1.5/2 metres up the wall. There doesn't appear to be any kind of link to when it rains as the damp can show possibly more if I've been boiling a pan of water (my back room is an open kitchen diner style). Any ideas?
I've read about hygroscopic damp which seems plausible. Any hints or tips would be much appreciated.
Thanks
