Hi there
Hopefully you have not gone ahead and purchased exterior wood stain for your floorboards. Do not use exterior stuff for the floorboards - I made this mistake after sanding my floorboards. I had used exterior wood one and it just did not cure. In fact, after about 48 hours it was still sticky and was starting to go softer.

After ringing the customer careline, they said that it would need to be removed - either by sanding or chemically (nitromoors for the entire floor anyone????).

I would recommend using a floor paint. B&Q stock them. If you want something more upmarket, then I would recommend Farrow and Ball. Check out their website and order a paint card/samples. They have a massive range.

Good luck. (I say this as we had a right 'mare with our floor!!)

"Colron" are spirit-based dyes which will stain wood in a variety of colours, including black. They do not incorporate any varnish or sealant, just the colour. So you can then apply your choice of varnish (e.g. polyurathene matt) over the top. The surface must be entirely free of dirt, grease or old finish as the dye soaks into the surface of the wood.

One of the results in that any thicker or thinner patches of the finish will not make the colour look patchy.
