De-aerator

Hi

I have a copper de-aerator attached to the central heating plumbing. It has a small plastic cap which can be unscrewed to let out trapped air.
Should this cap be left loose, or screwed down tight ?- no water seems to come out.

Left loose, unless it's leaking.
