Hi All,
Hope someone can help here.
I unplugged the PC over xmas as I needed the powerpoint for something else.
Hey presto, when I plugged it back in absolutely nothing happens!
I've just changed the power supply and cleaned out the inside of the case. The on/off switch gives continuity when pressed and I've had the mobo out to make sure there was nothing untoward hiding behind it.
It's a Gigabyte GA-8I945PM-RH board with 3G of ram.
I've also done the obvious of trying different kettle leads and points but still no joy.
Any ideas to try before ordering a new mobo?
Regards,
Paul.

When you say "absolutely nothing happens!", do you mean no lights, no fans etc?

To clarify, after reseating all components in sockets, have you tried to run it with a known working supply and just basic memory and graphics? (remove all drives and other connectors).

Hi,
Yes, I bought another brand new PSU and disconnected the secondary drive.
No lights, fans or anything powers up.
Was a perfectly reliable machine prior to this happening.

Paul.

Is the PSU fan running?

You didn't say if you had tried the configuration in my previous post. For testing, you should only have processor, memory, graphics and a known working PSU. No drives or other peripherals.

You could also try checking the CMOS battery. I've not see it often, but a depleted battery could prevent startup.

Was the old PSU actually u/s? If it died, it could have damaged other components.

The more information you can provide, the more likely one of us can assist.

Hi again,
Many thanks for your time by the way :0)
The fan on the PSU is not even running.
I've taken out the graphics card and just dropped the cmos battery which is giving 3+v on the meter but I've left it out to see if it can help matters. I'll drop the graphics card back in and unplug all the drives now.
I can't test the old psu until tomorrow as I need to take it to work to test on a machine there.
Back in 5!!!
Cheers.

Dead as a dodo still !!!
I unplugged all drives from mobo (HDD and DVDs) and put the graphics card back in and cmos battery but still no joy.
I held in the on button for 30 secs as I read that this can drain off faulty capacitors and possibly boot the system up also.
Bugger eh!!!
Paul.

Ground the green wire on the power connector. If the PSU fan comes on, your motherboard is faulty.

Will have to try tomorrow now as I've got an early start in the morning.
Many thanks for the suggestion, will post back with results.
Regards
Paul
