I want a 3 gang switch by my back door to control 3 zones of my garden, patio, middle, rear. Right now we don’t know where any of these lights are going and I’m struggling to think of how to do this.
Do I take a supply to switch, run 3 twin and earth to a junction box and then run flex/armoured (for “middle/rear”) from junction box when we come to do the lights.
Any better ideas? I have a habit of making things harder than they are…

My drive light is plugged in to a socket in utility room, so any problems I can simply unplug it. But how to control is always a point of debate, and that will likely change what one goes for.

I have one PIR remaining, but even that comes from a smart switch, that has dusk and dawn.

I do not tend to sit there at night looking out to my garden, my lights are to see out of car to the door, so down to what they are for?

Your proposal sounds reasonable. If these zones are in a line you could run 4 core to the first zone, 3 core to the second from the first then 2 core to the third from the second

Whether that works out cheaper than 3x2 core is an exercise for the reader

I assume you are decorating at the moment and trying to get this in while it's messy?
Depending on position of all the bits involved I'd personally try to install a conduit between the switch and box, possibly a 25mm flexible conduit
