Deciding whether or not we should have a new kitchen?

Good Morning Folks

My wife and I are thinking of selling our property in the next 24 months or so. However, our kitchen is quite old and we can't decide whether or not to have a new kitchen fitted and hopefully recoupe the costs when it comes to selling, or place the property on the market at a reduced cost, without having a new fitted kitchen.

What factors would we need to take into consideration when deciding?

Leave it as it is now ( othjer than a good clean ) and reduce the price by the cost of the new kitchen you would have chosen.

Reason is that if you fit a new kitchen it may not be the style the new buyer wants. By leaving it as it is and "giving" the new buyer the money for a new kitchen they get the kitchen of their choice.
 
EA's suggest it's kitchens and bathrooms that stand out as key to selling a property.

If your area sells very quickly then leave as is, if your area struggles on the selling I'd be inclined to replace the kitchen to add sales potential.

Aye its not clear cut, fit a really good kitchen and you could easily hook in a buyer, if they liked it, fitting a run of the mill neutral kitchen can actively prevent buyers as they'll not like the kitchen and won't be able to justify replacing it.
