I need to femove a 20 year old deck of a reasonable size (3.4M x 9M).

I cannot find a suitable bit to fit the old deck screws - a small square bit. Are these sold anywhere, on their own rather than in the box of screws? Maybe I am using the wrong terminology while searching?

Also, do current deck screws still use the same bit?

Thanks.

I was not aware of that facility, so thanks.

As soon as I find what I am looking for, I will take a photo

Experiment, and you might find an allen or torx drive bit that will just about fit.

Thanks all, I manage to find a Wera for 2mm square bit for £3.89 EACH.
After all that, the screws either would not rise from the old timbers, as soft, or would not budge.
So have had to resort to crowbar, bolster chisel and brute force.

Just get a crowbar and pull the boards up, you'll be there for a month of Sundays trying to find the old screws and another month trying to get them out.

Thereafter you can hit the screws with a hammer as if to bend them and they generally snap.

Wear eye protection.

Even with an impact driver?
Call me an idiot. I have one in the van and did not even think to try it. Once I got a rythm going, it wasnt too bad using force. I did have the daft idea that I may be able to re-use most of the sub frame so was trying to avoid damage. In fairness, it is not too bad it most places, but is over 20 year old, so starting again.
