Hi,
We plan to build some decking in our back garden. This will be next to the house so I hope to be able to fix to the wall for stability but of course below damp course unless this is advised against. The area we currently have is about 7m long by 3m wide not sure how much we will deck but a large part of it.
Our current patio are has a good depth of hardcore which was flattened with a wacker plate and we have stones on top of this. This was done by a landscaper which we knew so should be a strong base.
Would it be substantial to lay a decking frame on this using just slabs and posts sitting on this? I have seen this in youtube videos. Or would I need to concrete? Any advice on thickness of boards would help too. I plan on maybe 400-450mm gap between the frame and looks like 4 x 2 would be good enough.
I would be looking at tanalised timber too, I wonder if there is a particularly good video or website that describes the process well.
Thanks
