decking question/problem

I've got two problems with my decking. First of all, it has been stained with a solid colour stain that is peeling. I have jet washed it and sanded to get off any loose bits but getting it all off would be a nightmare.
The second problem is that a have a young child and the decking gets very slippery. I would like to make it non-slip.
A neighbour has suggested that I restain using the same colour and seal it with PVA. He says that this would cut down on peeling and make the surface non-slip. I know there are special treatments to make it non-slip but have never tried them.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions about this?

Well he/she is wrong on both counts. PVA is water-soluble and as such will just turn to slippy mush if you painted it on a deck.

You are stuck with the flaking problem - that's why we recommend never staining a deck. Anyway, as for the non-slip issue - IIR, you can get non-slip paint-on stuff that has grit in it. I don't remember the name (Thermo will know) but I have seen it in the sheds in the past.
