Decking Stain or Oil (Unknown last application)

Hello everyone,

I did a search on the forum on various topics around maintaining decking and is inclined towards applying Oil.

I have moved into a place 6 months ago and just cleaned the patio decking. I'm looking to apply some protective layer. I have no clue when the last time it was done.

Questions:
# Should it be Oil or stain?
# Single or Double coat ?
