Hi

I am having some landscaping done in my garden (paying a landscaper to do this) which includes a small slightly raised 3m x 3m decked area.

I have some questions over the materials being used and the way in which the decking is being constructed - please bear with me as I'm not familiar with this but have done some research which is the reason I now have these questions. I just want to know if this sounds like its going to be suitable / safe or not. I had asked for the decking to be strengthened as I may on occasions hire a hot tub to go on it (parties etc), although this wasn't the primary purpose.

So far the landscaper has concreted in 12 support posts. These appear to be approx 85mm x 85mm. There are 6 along either side - separated at varying intervals of between 400 & 600mm and with approx 2.7m between the two rows of posts.

Does this sound reasonable or should there be supports in the centre of the 2.7m span? Are the 85mm supports adequate?

He has started to build a frame around the supports - from what I can tell the wood being used for this, and I assume the joists too, is 75mm x 47mm C24 dry graded timber.

Does this sound up to the job? I don't want to over engineer but I did ask for this to be strong enough to hold a hot tub if I ever decided to hire one. I have seen a lot of references to using 47mm x 150mm C16 timber - but have also seen that C24 is stronger so not sure whether that means a smaller dimension can be used?

Should I be seeing the frame bolted to the supports or would using screws be acceptable?

Appreciate this is very limited information but just want to check if it sounds suitable before work starts again tomorrow... Apologies for some simple questions here..

Thanks

sounds drasticly undersized to me
as a guide a small hot tub picked at random
http://www.hotspring.co.uk/shop-hot-tub-models/hotspot/2-person-hot-tubs-tx-compact-spas
will add just over a ton with 2 adults in it
i personally would go for 6x2" with a center support at every point
i would have also spaced them out equally or add another one to reduce the 600mm span assuming its an odd one
500 centers [space between timbers around 450mm] would be my choice and i would not trust a hot tub on it but there again i do over engineer :D :D

Thanks, the guy is back in tomorrow so I'll have a word with him then. Like I say I'm no expert but just from looking at the materials I had my doubts straight away.
