Hi!
I am looking for a bit of advice regarding a double garage (detached) at a property I am buying.
It has two single up+over garage doors, and a supporting central wall between the doors (running front to back, supporting the roof - small pitch at front, long sloping pitch to the back) (not side to side).
Does anyone know if it’s compulsory to put planning permission or anything in with our council to:
1) remove both garage doors and add one RSJ with a full width roller shutter
2) remove central supporting wall and add in an RSJ front to back to open up the garage to its full width?
Would either require a survey to determine load bearings etc if so? Or does this not apply?
I realise the 2 RSJ's will mean one sits ontop of the other, in a T shape.
It’s currently approx 6m wide by 8m deep, built in the 80's, I’d say 3m total height at the top of the pitch if I had to guess
It’s detached and about 5m away from the main dwelling if this makes any odds to what you can/can't do yourself. Would be used as a games room or part garage, part mancave I guess, with tools/workshop/maybe pool table. At some point I’ll want to change the roof itself to be a more equal pitch to make some rafter/storage room but for now it’ll stay as it is.
Advice appreciated! Cheers
