Does anyone know of a way of detering foxes from chewing on plastic cable or pipes? I have an automatic watering system and a water fountain where the supply pipes/power cables have been shredded by what I have to assume are urban foxes. I don't mind them in the garden, but not doing this!
Someone suggested smearing Jeyes Fluid on the pipes. Does this work, or is there a better alternative? I've been told that the ultrasonic deterrrents only work for a while and then they learn to ignore the noise.

Ive only ever heard of rats chewing power cables  , could you bury the cable? or are they hidden behind something out of site and so surround them with small house bricks and fill in with out disrupting a nice view.?

I agree, its rats, i have had several "attacks" by rats chewing various things, last one was 12v cable for garden lights it was in their way so.......

It's not possible to bury all the water supply cables as they run to individual pots and tubs. I had assumed it was foxes because we get them regularly in the garden and I have seen no sign of rats (although in London they are suppposedly everywhere). The cables are chewed anything up to a foot off the ground which led me to suspect foxes.
Does anyone know if the Jeyes Fluid will work with rats also?

try it and see.

also invest in a couple of rat traps

i have seen a mouse run up a vertical wall, so a horizontal anything will be no prpblem

would the long run of them fit in any conduit?or is this similar to the the plastic pipe they are chewing? or are you using a hose pipe?

as i said, i have had rat attacks, they gnawed through copper cable, plastic conduit, no problem

lol must of had a a dim moment sori ;)

do have another idea place the pipe exposed in half guttering and cover in concrete, any pipe coming upwards just run through a piece of down pipe guttering and fill with concrete.

not lovely looking but may work.
