I have a Dewalt DCD785, 3 years old, which I've been happy with until recently. It has started getting harder and harder to undo the drill bit by twisting the head (or whatever the black plastic lump is properly called) to the point I'm barely able to do it. It seems to be mainly at the largest diameter, it gets very stiff beyond say a 8mm bit opening.

I'm worried it it gets worse I will be unable to use the drill and 3 years of occasional use is not OK from a decent make like DeWalt!

Is there a way to service the drill, maybe there could be dirt or rust in there but I've no idea how to get in

I'll take a look but this seems really helpful - thankyou.

Also now I recall it's called the "Chuck" :) I didn't try oiling as I wasn't sure this was a wise idea or not.

Debri from drilling can choke the insides. Squirting a bit of oil in usually frees it up after locking / unlocking a few times.
