Hi there I have a dewalt drill and I use it here and there around my house when I need to do any job.

Doesn’t get used heavily

Should I charge the battery every 1/2 months so it stays in good condition?

if in constant heavy use use the full 100% charged to flat cycle
if in constant daily or weekly use rechage when flat
if in sporadic use leave around 65-80% charged and check every say 10-12 weeks and charge iff required
i aim for no more than 80% no less than 20% iff left unchecked for over 6 months
the reason for the wide 65-80% is some batteries only show 1/3-2/3- last 1/3 and others 1/4-1/2-3/4-last 1/4

I am so confused here.

It’s gibberish for me.

Basically I don’t use my drill on a daily basis.

Only for small diy things around the house i.e build a small chest drawer, hang something, screw door handles, drill holes etc.

I want to know should I give the battery a charge every month/ every 2 months??

Go for 3 or 4 times a year assuming it's a li ion battery with a built in power level indicator on the battery

Ok cool. There isn't a built in level indicator. The battery charging station has the level indicators.

is it a plug in battery with a stalk or a slide on battery
if your not sure tool / battery or charger catalogue number will help

Only charge to 3/4 full when storing for a long time. Charge when 1/4 full when you insert into charger.

the 3bar battery indicator is on the back off the battery as fitted on the drill
if you charge it to say 2 bars it should last up to a year without a problem you dont need to charge till it drops to one so check perhaps twice a year if its still on at least two dont bother charging till only on one

I thought lithium batteries should not be stored fully charged.

indeed that's why i suggested daily to weekly even monthly use suggested full cycle flat to full charge but prolonged inactivity should be as above
the stored fully charged arguably means from perhaps a month plus rather than any short time stored in the box
